Hall of Fame Induction and Special Recognition Award Guidelines

 

I. Hall of Fame Committee

  1. Chaired by Vice President. The committee will include each of the Regional Representatives on the IATA Board of Directors and one member of the Hall of Fame who has been in the Hall of Fame for a minimum of five years as selected by the Vice President.

  2. Committee receives and reviews all nominations, and is responsible for recommending candidates for induction to the Board.

  3. No committee member may act on his or her own nomination.

II. Nominations

  1. Qualifications of Nominees

    1. Must be a certified athletic trainer and a current member of the IATA.

    2. Minimum of 15 years active practice or service to the athletic training/sports medicine profession.

    3. History of quality personal and professional contributions to the profession in the State of Illinois. 

    4. No person may nominate him/herself.

  2. Submitted by IATA certified members. Shall include a typed letter of nomination containing nominee’s qualifications, activities, and contributions in the field of athletic training and sports medicine. Emphasis should be placed on the nominee’s activities and contributions in the state of Illinois.

  3. After receiving a letter of nomination, the Vice President shall contact the nominee and request the nominee's professional vitae, and any other information they feel would be appropriate. Vita must be received within two weeks of request.

  4. The Vice President will forward the nominee’s vitas on to the committee with evaluation forms and give a deadline for return.

III. Selection Process

  1. After receiving a response from a nominee, the committee will then evaluate it, and decide whether or not to recommend that individual for induction.

  2. Points will be awarded for the following:

    1. Service to the IATA and Illinois athletes (IHSA, PSG, IATA BOD, etc.)

    2. Letter of Nomination (content, reasons for nomination)

    3. Service to NATA (GLATA/NATA officers, GLATA/NATA committee work, attendance at GLATA/NATA symposiums)

    4. Resume (content, strength) 

    5. Volunteer efforts (charities, Special Olympics, church, scouts, etc.)  

  3. The top 3 candidates, in terms of total points earned (minimum 75 points), will be recommended for induction. If there are 3 or less nominees, recommendation will be based on the committee's discretion, of the eligible nominations. In the event that a member of the committee is nominated, they will not vote. All candidates will be evaluated accordingly.

  4. No more than 3 members will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in any given year.

  5. After receiving Board approval, the Vice President shall inform all inductees and invite them, and a guest, to the ceremony. The induction will take place at the annual state meeting.

  6. The Vice President is responsible for ordering award plaques for all inductees. He or she will also plan the induction program. Two plaques are ordered per inductee, one for the inductee and one for the Hall of Fame wall in Champaign.

  7. The Vice President will ask the individual who nominated the inductee if he or she could introduce them at the ceremony. If they are unable to attend, the inductee will be asked to recommend another individual to introduce them.

 

IV. Special Recognition Award

 

  1. Individuals not meeting induction requirements may be given a "special recognition award." This award is reserved for those who have made significant contributions to the athletic training/sports medicine profession, as well as having a history of providing quality service to the athletes of our state. This award is given at the committee's discretion.

  2. Criteria

    1. This award can be received by an individual, group, organization, etc. that is not eligible to receive the IATA Hall of Fame award. This could include a non-certified member of the IATA, physician, administrator, school, etc.  

    2. Minimum of 10 years active practice or service to the athletic training/sports medicine profession and/or athletes in the state of Illinois.  

    3. History of quality personal and professional contributions to the Athletic Training profession in the state of Illinois.  

    4. An IATA member must submit letter of nomination. The letter shall be typed and contain the nominee’s qualifications, activities, and contributions to athletic training, sports medicine and/or the athletes of the state of Illinois.  

    5. Nominees must receive 5 out of 6 votes from the selection committee to be granted the award.  

    6. No more than 2 Special Recognition Awards will be given in any year. 

    7. If the nominee is an individual, it is recommended that their vitae/resume be used for evaluation purposes.

    4. Letter of Nomination (content, strength)

    5. The evaluator will also "vote" to recommend the candidate for induction.
