Region 1 Newsletter
Dear IATA Region 1(Cook County) Members:
I hope everybody had a safe fall season. First, I would like to give a big thank you to those members that voted for me to serve a 2nd Term as Region 1 Representative. I am humbled and honored to do so. Second, for those that enjoyed successful postseason play, Congratulations!! To those that still may be playing in state competitions as of the posting of this letter on the website, best of luck to your teams!! Below is the latest information from the last Board Meeting on November 2, 2008 that I'd like to share with you:
- Congratulations to the following BOD members that were recently elected:
-Membership Director: Steve Mayo
-Treasurer: Kathy Powell (2nd Term)
-Region 1 Representative: Ted Hirschfeld (2nd Term)
-Region 2 Representative: Max Bertman
- Mike "Sully" Sullivan took over as President of the IATA during the state meeting & Tory Lindley becomes Past-President. “Sully” as he is known my most, has established the following BOD meeting months thus far: Feb (Reg 2), May (Reg 3), Aug (Reg 4) all @1pm, and a conference call in Sept/Oct TBA. Once final dates/locations are confirmed/secured, the membership will be notified via the website/an E-blast.
- Much Congratulations are in order to the following Scholarship and Award Winners that were honored at the IATA Awards Luncheon at the State Meeting Nov 9, 2008:
-Offspring Scholarship – Dana Lichtenberger and Brent Thompson
-Living Memorial Scholarship – Keith Leiting
-Dominguez Scholarship – Jenna Singer
-Graduate Scholarship– Matt Sabin
-Special Recognition – Dr. Michael Collins of Hinsdale Orthopaedic & Associates
-Hall of Fame Award - Heidi Matthews (North Central College)
- Matt Marzullo (Wheaton Warrenville South HS)
- The BOD approved funds for the NATA’s i-Lead Program that will assist 2 students in gaining leadership skills by attending “Hit the Hill” Day in Washington DC.
- The IATA Student Congress has been active and continues to work on their bylaws.
- Hit the Hill day in Washington DC is planned for Feb 21-22. For more info click http://www.nata.org/2009febevents/index.htm
- IATA :Legislative Day in Springfield will be in March 2008. More info to come later.
- Rich Carey was appointed by the BOD to be the IATA’s first Archivist. He has established policies/protocols for future items to be archived in the Lincoln Memorial Library in Springfield.
- The Board has decided that the Newsletters will NO LONGER be mailed to members in an attempt to cut costs since it believes many/most members have at least internet access to view the letters on the IATA website, if not have e-mail. The link will be E-blasted to all members once posted pm the web site.
- The IATA is beginning a “Doing it Right Campaign,” see link for more info. http://www.nata.org/media/mediaguide06-07.pdf More details to follow.
- The BOD has also approved a Memorial Service Award for Karen Hovorka (deceased wife of long time IATA friend Pete Hovorka from School Health Supply). Please contact Ann Banfield-IATA Secretary for more details..
A big “THANK YOU” to Mike Overturf and his State Meeting Committee for doing a great job and making this years meeting so successful! - Great Job Mike!!
