NEWSLETTER #6 ______________________________ July, 2008
Dear Region 2 Members,
This newsletter summarizes the Board of Directors meetings in April and June, 2008. I hope you are enjoying your summer, had fun at the NATA Convention and can just relax before the fall.
April 13th Meeting:
- President Lindley spearheaded a presidential dinner at the NATA convention inviting past presidents of the IATA ---- a resounding success!
- BOD Election positions announced: Treasurer, Membership Director, Region 1 Representative and Region 2 Representative.
- 2008 State Meeting & Annual Symposium to be held on November 8-9 at the Lisle Hilton. As time nears, check the website for details and online registration.
- Membership Directory will be available on a PDF file on the website for downloading.
- Need to upgrade and update the IATA Display for public relations purposes.
- This year’s Raffle ticket sales were $2725. Prize winners on the website. Money placed in the Operating Account due to the State not rewarding our rights to a PAC Raffle.
- A new IATA Logo was unveiled and is the first step in the newly approved DCC Marketing Plan.
- The first issue of the IATA News will be online August 1, 2008; article deadline will be July 15th to Bill Frey, webmaster.
- The new Hospital/Clinic Recognition Award added to the IATA Awards was approved. All award and scholarship application materials must be sent to Vice-President Mike Overturf by July 15th !!! All forms are on the website.
- Steve McInerney, ATC was appointed as the new Governmental Affairs Director in Executive session.
- It was decided to pursue individuals who can contribute more to the PAC Fund since the next Sunset Review of our Medical Practice Act may require more funding.
- The new Media “Doing It Right” Campaign was initiated to thank any and all Media personnel for properly using ATC terminology----a finalizing of the project will be proposed at the June meeting.
- History and Archives Task Force will be recognized individually at the state meeting in November for their work on the archives and securing them in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield, Illinois this past March.
June 19th Meeting:
- Kathy Powell’s Treasurer’s Report is as follows: Operating: $37,183.21; PAC: $16,621.05; and Development: $4,497.00.
- This year’s Golf Outing [June 30th] was a great success with over $5,000 in Hole Sponsorships. After expenses, the outing secured $4,095.46 in profits.
- IATA’s Student Congress continues to evolve and is busy working on their goals, objectives, and securing additional members.
- REMINDER OF UPCOMING BOD ELECTION: Check the website for candidate information after September 8th on voting for Treasurer, Membership Director, and Regions 1 & 2 Representatives beginning October 8th. For voting questions, contact President-Elect Mike Sullivan at sullyatc@comcast.net.
- CONGRATULATIONS: All District 4 members receiving NATA Awards this year in St. Louis were from Illinois !!!

June 19th Meeting Continued:
- IATA Secondary Schools Committee has been established and is busy working on projects most notably developing liaison with the IHSA.
- CVent was approved as a vendor to process IATA online financial transactions.
- The new IATA Archivist position was approved and Rich Carey will be the first to serve in this appointment.
- Pursuing reciprocal sponsorship with the Chicago Sports Medicine Society Golf Outing and the IATA Golf Outing.
- REMINDER; All scholarships and awards nomination forms (which are on the website) are due to IATA Vice-President, Mike Overturf by July 15th!
