Region 3

 

Dear Region Three Member,
The recent BOD meeting at Illinois State University on February 10th was a great success.  There was a very large representation of athletic training students present from region three.  I would like to thank all athletic training program directors within the region for their help in coordinating participation from their students.  Below you will find highlights from our meeting at ISU.  Also, please pay special attention to information regarding the IATA-PAC Raffle Tickets.
February BOD meeting Highlights

  1. The BOD has approved a new marketing strategic plan which will also include new branding and logos
    1. The BOD has created these objectives for the plan:
      1. Create a more comprehensive and consistent marketing message and approach to reaching the outside industries that can benefit from the profession of athletic training as well as better represent its membership at large.
      2. Define and implement a turnkey strategic marketing plan aimed at the ongoing promotion of the association
  1. Emily Whitson MS, ATC, a region three member, has been appointed chair of the Secondary Schools committee, if you are interest in serving on this committee please contact her at:   ewhitson@hopedalemc.com
  2. Kristen Streeter, MS, ATC has been appointed as our state representative to the GLATA Executive Council ( this change has been brought about after the constitutional amendment made at the state meeting in November)
  3. Thanks to Rich Carey, ATC, region two representative, final preparations are being made to place the IATA Archives in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield.  This will coincide with Legislation Day on March 11th.  This is a very special honor to our association, special thanks goes to Rich and all his and the committee’s hard work!
  4. The BOD has developed a student congress that currently consist of 12 of the 14 ATEPs’ in Illinois
  5. The BOD is working to update our constitution and by-laws

March is National Athletic Training Month!

  1. Be sure to check the IATA and NATA websites for ideas and information for NATM
    1. Please make sure to report all your NATM activities to Bob Flynn, so that he can pass them along to GLATA and the NATA.  Bob’s email is:  rflynn@mchs.net
  2. In conjunction with NATM and the Boys’ ISHA Basketball Championships, the IATA will have a booth set up in Peoria at the tournament.  Please contact Bob Flynn if you or any of you ATS are interested in helping. 

Mark your calendar now!

  1. We hope to see all of you in Toledo for this year’s GLATA Symposium March 6th-8th
  2. The 2008 IATA Golf Outing is set for Monday, June 30th @ 10am at Broken Arrow Golf Club in Lockport
  3. The NATA Convention is in St. Louis this year and will run June 17th-21st.  We hope to see you in St. Louis!
  4. The 2008 IATA state meeting is set for November 8th-9th at the Hilton in Lisle.  Check the IATA website for more info.

IATA –PAC Raffle

  1. IATA-PAC (Political Action Committee) raffle tickets are enclosed.  Tickets are $25/ticket.  This is our major fundraiser for funds to support our lobbying activities.  We highly encourage all members to get involved with this activity.  Our lobbyists are there to help protect our right to practice!  Help us support them!
  2. The individual who sells the most tickets will win free attendance to the 2008 state meeting!
