The Illinois Athletic Trainers Association is proud to be actively involved with the Illinois General Assembly as a Registered State Association. We have developed excellent relationships with our State Representatives and State Senators. Be sure and introduce yourself to your State Representative or Senator. Let them know you are a Licensed and Certified Athletic Trainer in Illnois.

We continue to develop strong relationships with other Professional entities in Illnois. Athletic Trainers work closely with many different types of Physicians and professional organizations in Illinois.

All Athletic Trainers working in the State of Illinois must be Board Certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association and Licensed by the State of Illinois. More information about contacting your Congressman is available at the following link: http://www.nata.org/

Making Contact With Legislators

There’s no time better than the present. Between the current proposed changes, and sunset review of the Illinois Athletic Trainers Practice Act in a few years, we need to contact our respective legislators and introduce ourselves and our profession.

Follow the link below to a sample letter that you may use to write representatives and senators to:

Create a relationship between you, the ATC, and legislators, both Republican and Democrat.
Introduce yourself as a Licensed Athletic Trainer and describe what your job entails and how it benefits the physically active people of this state.

Tips:

  • Be concise! Get to the point
  • Do not get into big issues, complain, or adversely describe another profession or person.
  • Focus on the great things athletic trainers do to provide quality and cost effective medical care.
  • Use this letter as as stepping stone to follow-up phone calls and meetings.
