Legislative Update:
Currently there are two bills that have been introduced into the Illinois General Assembly. One is in the House and the other is in the Senate. House Bill 200 (HB200) and Senate Bill 150 (SB150). Both Bills are on Concussion legislation at the secondary level. However, the IATA has decided to put its support toward HB200 vs. SB150, due to the language used. HB200 will look to amend the School Code and require school boards to have policies and education in place for parents and athletes, in regards to concussions and return to play from BOTH practice and competition. HB200 does defer to the IHSA policy that was enacted this school year. For more information visit: Illinois General Assembly – Bill Status for HB0200. There will be concussion legislation of one form or the other. Those AT’s ,that work at the High School level, should start looking to be proactive in creating WRITTEN policy and procedures for RTP following concussions versus being reactive to School Board demands.
IATA PAC Raffle: You should be getting an email soon, if not already, in regards to this year’s PAC Raffle. Please, not only consider purchasing a ticket for yourself, but also, send the email invitation out to friends, family, co-workers, etc. Money raised through this raffle helps us with our legislative efforts.
