Region 4 Newsletter
To the Members of Region 4:
I hope everyone is off to a great year so far in 2012. I just wanted to take some time and introduce myself and to also include some information regarding current events.
I am currently the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Eastern Illinois University working primarily with Men’s Basketball. I completed my Undergraduate degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato and my graduate degree at Michigan State University prior to my arrival here in August of 2010. I look forward to working with all of you in the near future and am excited to meet you at the Annual State and District Meetings.
NEWS
On behalf of the NATA and the Youth Sports Safety Summit in December, the IATA would like to share CNN’s trailer for their documentary on concussions, “Big Hits, Broken Dreams.” The full documentary will air Sunday, January 29 at 7:00pm CST.
Registration is now open for the GLATA 2012 Winter Symposium with the emphasis of “Rediscovering Rehabilitation”. The annual meeting will take place on March 15th-17th in Wheeling, IL. More information is available at https://glata.org.siteviz.com/en/education/winter_meeting_2012/
I encourage all of you to also get involved with the social media side of our profession and “Like” the IATA on Facebook. Included with this would be adding yourself to the GLATA group on Facebook. I also encourage all of you to continue to check the IATA website at http://www.illinoisathletictrainers.org/ for up to date current events and contact information.
POSITIONS AVAILABLE WITHIN GLATA
The NATA Young Professionals Committee is seeking nominations for the National Distinction Award. This award is the Young Professionals’ Committee highest honor. The YPC wishes to recognize a young professional athletic trainer who has made a definitive impact on the athletic training profession and association at the various levels of organization. This is a meritorious award that reaches the depth and breadth of the nominee’s character, clinical skills/ knowledge/ abilities, and selfless service: Nominations are due by February 1. GLATA Student Senate (GSS) is now accepting applications for a co- advisor. This position requires attendance for all GSS conference calls and the winter meeting in March. This position also serves as a resource for the Quiz Bowl authors, BOC Workshop Coordinator, and the Student Senate as a whole. If you know of a certified athletic trainer who would be interested, please direct them to contact Lauren Hawkinson, at lehawkinson07@winona.edu for further information and an application.
If you have any questions or just want to introduce yourself please feel free to contact me in any way you feel most comfortable. I am here to allow your voice to be heard within the Board of Directors for IATA and welcome any and all comments/concerns. I look forward to working with everyone in the near future.
