OUR MISSION

The mission of the IATA is to improve the quality of healthcare in the State of Illinois through the advancement, promotion, and improvement of the athletic training profession at all levels, and to promote a better working relationship among those interested in athletic training by providing a means for a free exchange of ideas.

Graduate Scholarships

Graduate Scholarships

A graduate scholarship is available to an athletic training student who is currently enrolled or has been accepted into a post-professional Athletic Training or related program. One $500 scholarship is awarded annually. Applicants must be degree-seeking students for the upcoming fall academic year. They must have also worked for at least two academic years as an athletic training student at the college or university level under the supervision of a nationally certified, Illinois state licensed sponsoring athletic trainer. Scholarships will be issued to the attending school upon proof of full-time enrollment for the fall semester after the scholarship is granted. Official transcripts are required for GPA verification, as well as three letters of recommendation. Undergraduate Scholarships

The Dr. Richard Dominguez Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Richard Dominguez Memorial Scholarship is an undergraduate scholarship available to a college or high school athletic training student who is currently enrolled or has been accepted into an Athletic Training Program as an undergraduate. One $1000 scholarship is available annually. Applications are due to the IATA Vice President by May 31, 2018. Application criteria include the following: The applicant must be a full-time student either currently enrolled or accepted into a college or university at the time of application (scholarship checks will be issued to the attending school, upon proof of full-time enrollment for the fall semester after the scholarship is granted), official or unofficial transcripts are required for GPA verification, and three letters of recommendation.This scholarship is looking for a strong autobiographical sketch to be strongly considered. It should include the reasons for wanted the scholarship, student’s outstanding qualities, clinics or professional meetings attended, awards won in high school and college, organization to which the student currently belongs or belonged to in the past, athletic teams you worked with if applying for the undergraduate or graduate scholarship, and jobs which the student held during the summer or while attending school.

The Robert C. Hamilton Award

The Robert C. Hamilton Award is in honor of a man that was a tremendous advocate for the profession of Athletic Training in the state of Illinois. Throughout his career Dr. Hamilton was the team MD for DePaul University, UIC, Gordon Tech HS, Taft HS, and St. Rita HS. Dr. Hamilton was instrumental in the Registration Act for Athletic Trainers, in the state of Illinois. Dr. Hamilton was also a Bronze Star recipient while in the Vietnam war. One $500 scholarship is available annually. Applications are due to the IATA Vice President by May 31st . The focus of this award is put on academic achievement throughout the applicants Athletic Training Education Program. The application must include the following: -Applicant must have passed the NATA Certification Exam -Applicant must have either graduated, or is on-track to graduate, from a CAATE Approved program -Applicant must be a member of the IATA -GPA should be a minimum of 3.5/4.0 -Three letters of recommendation (1 must be from the school Program Director) -Current Resume -Personal Statement: Statement should discuss the value of the applicants’ educational process. Discussion of educational and Athletic Training organization involvement is recommended.

IATA Living Memorial Scholarship

The Living Memorial Scholarship is an award for students currently enrolled in professional or post-professional level athletic training programs and student-members of the IATA.  One $1000 scholarship will be issued annually.  Applications are due to the IATA Vice President by May 31st.  The application should include the following for full consideration:student must be enrolled in a professional AT program, submission of unofficial or official transcript, three letters of recommendation that can directly speak to the candidate’s volunteer service, current resume, and Personal Statement:  The Living Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to an AT student who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service to community organizations outside the professional/educational athletic training setting.  Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate contributions to organizations which better the community such as service organizations, clubs, boy scouts/girls scouts, or others.  Scholarship checks will be issued to the attending school, upon proof of full-time enrollment for the fall semester after the scholarship is granted.

Offspring Scholarship

A scholarship is available to an offspring of a certified/licensed member of the Illinois Athletic Trainers’ Association, Inc. This student must be currently enrolled in or accepted into a college, or university, regardless of major. Two $500.00 scholarships are available annually. Applications are due to the IATA Vice President by May 31, 2018. Application criteria include the following: The applicant must be under the legal guardianship of a parent that is a Certified/Licensed Athletic Trainer and a member of the Illinois Athletic Trainers’ Association, Inc. The applicant must be a full-time student either currently enrolled or accepted into a college or university at the time of application. Scholarship checks will be issued to the attending school, upon proof of full-time enrollment for the fall semester after the scholarship is granted. Official transcripts are required for GPA verification. Please also send three letters of recommendation. All application materials should be sent to the IATA Vice President.

Presidential Memorial Scholarship

The Presidential Memorial Scholarship is a scholarship available to students currently enrolled in a professional athletic training program. One $500 scholarship is available annually. Applications are due to the IATA Vice President by May 31st. The application must include the following: applicant must have either graduated, or is on-track to graduate, from a CAATE Approved program, submission of unofficial or official transcript, three letters of recommendation (1 must be from the school Program Director), current resume, and personal statement: The Presidential Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to high-quality AT students who demonstrate strong academic and clinical skills as well as leadership and involvement in the AT program, state, district, and national associations. A strong candidate embodies and demonstrates the importance of professional service. Scholarship checks will be issued to the attending school, upon proof of full-time enrollment for the fall semester after the scholarship is granted.
